We invite you to discover the historical and cultural heritage of the Fouras peninsula:
The Vauban Fort
Discover Fort Vauban, the building with many stories, which has always watched over the Charente estuary.
Imagine that in the Middle Ages, the fort was the castle of the Sires de Rochefort, who used it as a tollbooth for boats entering the Charente. In the 15th century, in place of the castle, which was destroyed during the War of Religion, a 30-metre high keep was built to watch over the sea from its terrace.
If you wish to immerse yourself in the history of this enormous fort, take part in the dramatised visit "The ghosts of the past".
Fort Boyard
Fort Boyard was originally built to protect the mouth of the Charente, the Rochefort arsenal and the harbour on the island of Aix. It was intended to compensate for the technical shortcomings of the artillery of the time, namely the limited range of cannon fire.
It is possible to admire it from the sea, during a boat trip. Several companies offer tours around the fort (and the surrounding islands) allowing the curious to admire it from every angle.
The pedestrian street
Located a few steps from our hotel, the pedestrian street is a place not to be missed on the peninsula of Fouras Les Bains.
You can find its two fish and fruit and vegetable markets open all year round as well as numerous shops and boutiques where you will surely find what you are looking for.
